Can you manage and reset Windows NT passwords on a domain that do not have the Client extensions for Active Directory installed?
As I understand it, windows 2000+ computers contact any domain controller to change passwords. Since Windows NT is unable to talk to the domain controllers because it doesnt have the client extensions program, how do you change a windows NT password at the domain level?
Are you speaking generally when you say Windows NT, or do you literally mean NT Workstation 4.0? Hopefully you are using Windows 2000 or XP…..if so then you need Microsoft Administrative Tools installed on your machine to access Active Directory. This is assuming that you want to make changed remotely (not in front of the server). Will it support dynamic linked libraries? will windows xp/vista programs still work?
Vienna utilizes a new architecture setting it apart once more from previous MS OS's; however, MS will probably attempt compatibility settings to allow older programs relying on older architectures to run; however, I think Vienna/Windows 7 isn't such a great move – Vista isn't widely accepted, is plagued with problems, and is still relatively new on the market; MS hasn't watched it long enough, and if they don't learn from what Vista introduced, Vienna could be just another bad apple in the bin. Software will always be progressive no matter what OS is introduced – it is the strive for convenience and entertainment.

We are using windows small business server 2003 with windows server 2003 as part of the same domain. How can I connect to a user's account as an administrator?
I can connect to a users account by changing their password but I would like to connect to their account with 1) not changing the password and 2) log in as an administrator so the GPO does not take effect on that account.
Thanks!
You don't. SECURITY. If you could, you could "frame" someone for sending out e-mails of an offensive nature or steal company information. It doesn't matter that you say you would never do such things – SBS is based on Server 2003 and large companies need this kind of security. Change the users passwords or if you need to test something without the GPO applying, then create a test user.

My PC crashed and now I am trying to set up a “new” used one that has Windows NT. I have my original Windows XP disc. Can I just copy over the NT?
Provided that the hardware supports XP, you can use XP disk to reformat the current system and do the clean installation of XP system

I use old wordperfect program 5.1 in dos because my clients use it. I can operate in windows xp but need new computer.
Dear,
It is not just the question of wordperfect program you use. but it is the question of other hardware, like printer, scanner, bluetooth etc(if u use) because if you brought these devices before vista came, your these devices will not work with vista and you will be in problem. Secondly, other softwares will either not run on vista or will run with error, say office xp always generates error before running on vista.
It will be better if you can buy a computer with windows xp.

When there's a power failure, my windows server is unable to reboot. It is currently connected to a UPS.
Hi. There should be a setting in BIOS that tells the machine how to respond to a power failure. Some UPS units also have a setting.

The Chinese character system it originally used in DOS was ETen (ET3). When I bring up the ET3 character system and the application program under a DOS window it has flashing characters that are not Chinese.
Do you have any suggestions or ideas to try to get the application program to work under Windows?
A DOSBOX with CCDOS/UCDOS/ET3 will do the trick

No becasue it's not windows xp. Since 2000 is outdated why not just install XP on your laptop.

Vista
I have a Compaq laptop pre-installed with Vista, Since Vista eats so much of memory and I don’t like it at all, I formatted the hard drive (not the partition for Vista recovery), and installed XP. Now for some reason, I want to get Vista back, can I use the recovery partition on my hard drive? How? Thanks a lot.
It’s usually the case that you need the recovery disk(s) that are specific to your computer to install from that recovery partition. If you had them, you could insert the disk(s), boot from them, and follow the prompt to restore the computer to factory settings.
When you buy a computer, they usually have a program that will make recovery disks for you. Since you don’t have that option, you may want to either check the website and order it through them or call up their support to obtain the recovery disks.
